A Gentle Awakening: Honouring the Shift from Late Winter to Spring
If you’re finding that your energy hasn’t quite caught up with the longer days yet, you’re not alone. This time of year can feel confusing, the world starts to speed up, there’s a quiet pressure to feel motivated again, and yet internally you may still feel tender, reflective or in need of rest. Many people notice a sense of “I should be doing more by now,” even though their body and nervous system are still unwinding from winter.
This reflection is a response to that in-between feeling, the space where nothing looks like it’s happening, but something important is.
Late winter carries a deep intelligence. Above ground, the world can look still. Beneath the surface, however, roots are strengthening, energy is reorganising, and life is preparing itself, not through force, but through alignment and timing. This seasonal threshold mirrors our own inner process. Late winter into early spring is not a time for rushing forward, but for realigning our thoughts, tending our energy and preparing the foundations that will support sustainable growth.
Rather than offering things to fix or push through, the following reflections are gentle ways to support yourself through this transition, allowing energy to awaken naturally, in its own time.
1. Soften Your Thoughts as Energy Begins to Shift
As the days slowly lengthen, notice the stories you are telling yourself. Late winter invites us to loosen rigid thinking and gently question beliefs that may have formed during periods of fatigue, uncertainty or survival mode. Rather than pushing for positivity, aim for kind realism.
Ask yourself:
What thought patterns no longer support who I’m becoming?
Where could I offer myself more compassion?
Small shifts in thinking create space for new possibilities to emerge.
2. Clear and Heal What Winter Has Revealed
Winter has a way of surfacing what needs attention, emotionally, physically and energetically. As we transition toward spring, this is a time for gentle clearing and integration, not fixing or forcing. This might look like:
Resting more deeply
Letting emotions move through rather than suppressing them
Creating space away from constant stimulation
Healing in this season is subtle. It happens when we listen, soften and respond with care.
3. Build Resilience Through Rhythm, Not Pressure
Resilience doesn’t come from pushing harder, it grows through consistency, rhythm and self-trust.
Late winter asks us to stabilise before expanding:
Simple daily routines
Nourishing food and rest
Boundaries that protect your energy
When your nervous system feels supported, resilience becomes a natural state rather than something you have to work for.
4. Set Intentions That Feel Rooted, Not Rushed
Early spring intentions are quieter than New Year resolutions.
Rather than asking “What should I do?”, try asking:
What feels aligned right now?
What wants to unfold slowly?
What intention feels supportive rather than demanding?
Intentions set from a grounded place have longevity. They grow with you rather than pulling you ahead of yourself.
5. Nourish Vitality as Energy Gently Awakens
Vitality in this season doesn’t mean constant activity.
It looks like:
Moving the body in ways that feel pleasurable, not punishing
Spending time in natural light
Creating moments of joy and creative expression
Vitality is sustained when energy is respected. Small, nourishing actions now lay the groundwork for fuller expression in the months ahead.
6. Tend Your Energy as You Prepare to Expand
As spring approaches, energy naturally begins to rise.
Late winter invites us to stay attuned, noticing when to rest and when to gently engage. Practices such as breathwork, meditation, grounding or time in nature help regulate energy so growth feels steady rather than overwhelming. When energy is tended consciously, expansion feels safe.
If this season is asking you to slow down, realign and tend to your inner foundations, you do not have to do that alone.
If you’re navigating a season of transition and would like gentle support, THRIVE LIFE Coaching offers grounded, seasonal approaches to mindset, healing and self-leadership. You’re welcome to explore what feels right for you
Much love, as always
